Welcome to the review & articles page: The State of UK Airlines TodayWhat an absolutely terrible start to 2010 it has been for the UK airline industry. If it hasn't been for the devastating ash cloud that came down from Iceland and crippled the industry, British Airways has come off even worse with their continuing strikes. Indeed, having worked in and followed this industry for many years now, I cannot recall a time when it looked less gloomy for UK flights 2001 was a bad year for airlines, but 2010 has seen a culmination of factors mean that only the strongest companies can expect to survive into the next year. I have a flight booked from Vancouver at the beginning of next year with BA and am definitely worried about whether or not it will actually be flying. I guess it all hinges on how much longer it will take the arrogant CEO of the company to back down and realise that his staff are perfectly entitled to concessionary travel and that it is extremely arbitrary of him to take this privilege away from people who are merely sticking up for their rights. This does cause me concern though and I wonder how much longer this company can take such reckless behaviour? One company that has made significant profits this year is Ryan Air. Okay, they may not be British, but surely our country represents the most business for them. It would appear that people are still falling for that non existent low cost airfares myth. Fingers crossed now that this industry will start to see some better times in the coming months and that all the current problems will start to become ironed out. |
